PTSA.

The PTSA is a private, non-profit organization with elected members dedicated to serve students, parents and staff of International School. It complies with state bylaws.

In 2011 several parents got together to discuss creating a Booster Club organization for Bellevue International School.  We found that there was a need that was not being served between PTSA and ASB.  PTSA supports all things curriculum-related and is intended to benefit the most number of kids for the longest amount of time.  ASB, the student driven organization, has specific rules and regulations regarding who, what, and how fundraising can happen.  Both serve an important role but we believe there is room for a third option.  The idea behind iBoost is to create a parent-led non-profit organization designed to help the faculty-sponsored clubs fundraise in order to make participation in trips, programs, etc. accessible to all IS kids who want to participate.

PTSA.  ASB.  iBoost.  What is the difference?

The PTSA also advocates for the health, education, safety, and welfare of its children and youth. This support is manifested primarily through:

  • Funding of school-oriented programs that directly impact student learning, are implemented at school, are ongoing programs, impact a good portion of students & provide a good cost/benefit ratio
  • Advocacy on behalf of teens and youth in the school, in the community, and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children
  • Volunteerism within and in behalf of International School in support of school-related events.

The IS Booster Organization (iBoost) is a parent run non-profit organization that helps club raise money to support students who participate in faculty-sponsored clubs, academic, or arts activities outside the classroom. It is a Washington State registered IRS 501(c)3  and as such, must comply with the rules and guidelines of non-profit governance.

The Booster Club may also choose, in the future, to provide educational scholarships or help individuals and groups to launch new initiatives.

Funds will be generated through membership fees, donations and fundraising events at the club level.

ASB governing student council bodies include: ASB Executive Board, ASB Class Council, ASB Advanced Leadership Class and Student Senate. ASB leaders interact with students, staff and the administration to:
• Voice student needs and concerns

• Oversee the expenditures of ASB funds, raise funds

• Promote and sponsor school-wide programs and events and recognize sports, activities, and clubs.
